See you later, 2017.

Okay, it's that time of the year to reflect on 2017...

It started out fun spending New Year's with a close friend of mine at that time. I also got to see my little sister in March, and I traveled out to the Philippines and Cambodia which were great (still need to post about that), I continued to get tattooed, and picked up an old hobby of mine that has been making me very happy.

Honestly, this year was just more work-filled than anything due to the extra weekend classes. I was always so tired that I just wanted to do nothing but stay home and rest whenever I got time off. So, I didn't get much free time besides my vacations which were really nice and I'm totally grateful for, but nothing much happened during the year.

Like seriously, little to no human interactions happened besides with my students which has made me even more socially awkward than before. Despite little to no human interaction outside of work, I still learned some things so here they are:

Learn to let go of toxic relationships. No matter how much you care about these people, if they are hurting you more than they are helping you it's best to let them go. It really does wonders to your self esteem and your quality of life once they are no longer in it. Appreciate the good times you had but just stop it at that, and move on. And try your best to stay away from those type of people or keep them at a distance.
Don't think about what you should do, think about what you want to do. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in the idea of thinking about what you should be doing according to your friends, family, social media, society, whatever, that you stress yourself out for no reason. Everyone is different, and just do what you want to do. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

So, those were the two things I learned. There may not be many lessons, but these are very important ones though. I feel like it's something we all know, but this year I actually realized how important it was to pay attention to this advice.

I am honestly looking forward to it being next year because I have some awesome plans. I'm heading to Korea with Lisa, going to get tattooed and the heading back to the states. And I already made plans to do my hair (something completely different), go to Colorado to visit some friends, and go to Warped Tour with a new friend. And possible new travel plans! I'll keep you guys posted.

Hope you guys had a lovely Christmas and see you in the new year!

How does it feel?

So, it's been a while. I can't believe it's already going to be December soon. Hell, it's going to be my birthday. I completely forgot tbh. I've been busy with work, and only have Sundays off at the moment so I just look forward to Sundays. And I'm counting the days when I have my weekends again.

With it being autumn, I've noticed that I keep playing Citizen. It's been very fitting for my mood lately. Also, Trophy Eyes. Lately, I've just been listening to the same music and not interested in finding anything new.

I've recently picked up an old hobby of mine which is writing. And it is actually going pretty well. I am writing a story for an app and my story is actually getting many reads. I am so surprised but so happy. The last time I wrote anything was in junior high school so I'm amazed I can still write something lol.

Also, I just booked my ticket back to the states. I have already decided this a while ago, but I'm heading back to the states. I don't know if I'm staying there, but I need my sisters. I miss them. So much has changed since I've been gone. I need to be there for them, especially my younger sister. Everything is changing. And I realized I can't be away from my sisters when these big changes are happening. I don't want to be away from them.

And I'm ready for a new chapter of my life. I love Japan with all my heart, and I'm going to miss it like crazy when I leave. But I think I'm ready to leave, ready to figure out what I want to do next.

I know leaving now will leave me with fond memories. So much has happened here, and thinking about it tugs at my heart. I was so happy here and it changed my life so much. I am so grateful for my life here. I met amazing people, and had amazing experiences. I don't know if I'll ever come back, but as of now I'm going to enjoy the last few months I have here.

Just came back from Cambodia a few days ago, and all I can say is that I'm happy to be home. I love traveling, and Cambodia was so beautiful and fun BUT I love staying home. As soon as I got home, I took a shower, grabbed a bowl of cereal, and watched Game of Thrones.

It's been super hot. I literally just stay on my couch in front of a fan the whole day while watching shows or doing random stuff on the internet. I need to get food because I emptied my kitchen out before I left to Cambodia but every time I try to be productive and take a shower to go out, I end up getting hot and just go back to my couch and sit in front of my fan.

It's literally too hot to do anything. I really can't stand summer. The only reason why I like it now is because of summer vacation, and rather than working in the heat, I rather stay home and marathon shows with my aircon on or fan.

I'll be posting photos of Cambodia eventually! Still need to post the last photos of Miyazaki. Damn, I suck at blogging.

沖縄; part ii

The second part of our trip consisted of scenic drives back down to Naha where we stopped by different beaches and spots like Maeda Cape. Okinawan beaches are defintely some of the most beautiful beaches I've seen. It was still a tad chilly during this time so we didn't go swimming but it was still nice to see. The ocean water is so beautiful and blue.

Next weekend is Cambodia with Shayla!

沖縄; part i

Spring break in Okinawa was forever ago, but here I am posting about it finally. It is a bit of a blur though, so I'll write what I remember.

Me and Lisa did mostly very touristy things but we didn't care. We weren't there for a long time and didn't have much an idea on what to do so we just thought we'd do things that seemed cool.

We ate at a fancy restaurant and dresses up in traditional Ryukyuan clothes which was pretty fun even though we initially did it for shits and giggles. We also went to a Butterfly Garden on a rainy day during out stay. It was pretty interesting and not too crowded so we were able to enjoy the butterflies.

summer vacation soon.

Next Friday will be the start of my summer vacation and I am so excited. I have trips planned with friends. I am going to be venturing out of Japan for the first time since moving here. I will be going to Cambodia, the Philippines, and Korea. Korea was spur of the moment since a friend from California will be visiting. I haven't posted my Okinawa trip yet, or finished Miyazaki. I suck at blogging now. But hopefully I will be consistent with these posts.

Oh, and I moved into a new apartment. It's great. Still big, spacious, and newer it's the second floor so it's really nice and bright. I love it. And moving also made work easier. It was a good move.

Excited for things to come.

better late; part iv

The last hang out day consisted of karaoke during the day, and Disney Sea at night to get the cheap tickets. We bought Mickey and Minnie ears despite not being big Disney fans lol. We felt that it was the best way to get the whole experience.

We had so much fun. We didn't go on many rides, but we played on the Peter Pan ship, and the different areas of the park. It was great fun. And of course we ate popcorn, curry popcorn was out favorite.

We were exhausted by the night but we ended up going to this cool Mexican undeground bar in Takadanobaba before we called it a night. We didn't take off our Mickey and Minnie ears till we got back to our airbnb.

better late; part iii

Day 3 was an impromptu thing. The weather was horrible with heavy rain. So we looked for things to do inside and I found some things in Asakusa. I wanted my little sister and her bf to really enjoy themselves and do touristy things since it was their first and probably last time in Japan.

So I took them to Asakusa to try on kimonos where i got to take photos of them. Many people were staring and giving them compliments. They were so happy haha. Again, my sister and her bf are easily pleased. It was lovely having them here.

Jesse even got excited when he found an umbrella that looked like a Japanese sword lol. Afterwards we went to Sky Tree to eat and take pictures. Little sis got tipsy on sake lol.

Another good day.

better late; part ii

The next part of the trip consisted of me taking my little sister and Jesse to Kanagawa where I took them to Kamakura, Enoshima, and Yokohama. I’ve always had a soft spot for Kanagawa since I studied abroad there 4 years ago. It’s so weird to think it was that long ago, just writing the number made me stomach drop a bit for some weird reason.

Anyways, I took my sister and her boyfriend to my favorite spots. The giant Buddha, bamboo forest, and the view of the Yokohama skyline were a must.

It was my first time at Enoshima and it was pretty cool. We also got to explore some caves in Enoshima and made wishes to the god there.

It was a long day out, but it was fun.

better late; part i

I had almost decided to not blog anymore because I can't find the motivation to do it. It had become more of a chore than anything else with me being busy and just lazy. I decided it would be a waste not to. I look back and read things I forgot that happened so I want to keep this to remember.

I'll try to write more details but if I'm lazy I'll just post photos with short summaries.

So here is when my little sister and her boyfriend visited during spring break. We did touristy things because hellooo it was their first and probably last time in Japan. Tokyo Tower was a must, Shibuya, Harajuku, genki sushi, etc.

I finally went to Yoyogi park for the first time since all the time I've been in Japan. Also got to see those rockabillies I had been wanting to see since forever. It was nice. The sakura weren't blooming yet. They were suppose to be but darn rain messed it up.

They were so fun to take around and easily pleased.

Quick update.

So much to blog about. It's so much harder to find the time when you're working and actually having a life lol. Quick update, started my second year at my school. So far, it's been alright. I work at a preschool now which is decent overall just stressful with planning.

My sister came to visit with her boyfriend and though it was tiring it was really fun. Need to post about that.

Also went to Okinawa with Lisa, and Okinawa's beaches are beautiful. They're the prettiest I've ever seen but overall Okinawa was okay. I preferred Miyazaki, but that could be because it was still a bit cold so there wasn't much we wanted to do in the weather.

Also, another friend from California visited with her boyfriend. That was fun, and they brought me things from America!

Also started the line out my other knee tattoo. I don't know how I sat through the other one in a full sitting I was dying with just the outline with this one.

Will be sure to update a weekend when I'm not busy or lazy!

Friday, March 3, 2017

Hey, March.

It's already March. Did anyone else feel these past couple months zoom by? I seriously can't believe it's already March. Two more weeks until I complete my first year at my school.

I am excited for my second year to start at my school but also nervous due to new classes and students. I'm also going to be starting at a preschool which I'm not too sure how I feel about it. I feel more neutral about it than anything.

Besides that, spring break is coming! My little sister and her boyfriend are coming to Japan to visit me. I cannot wait to see them and show them around. Also to just see my baby sister in general. I'm so excited for her because she is going to be traveling the first time some place far from California.

Also, me and Lisa are going on another trip, this time to the lovely Okinawa! I've been wanting to go for the longest time, since I studied abroad so I'm excited to finally get the chance. I've wanted to go even more so because one of my good friends is from there, he already gave me a list of his recommendations.

I'm going to be busy with work until I hit spring break, but it will be worth it.

Who really matters?

A blogger I follow, Rambling Rabbit, recently wrote a post about re-evaluating friendships and just people in your life, this couldn't have came at a more relevant time.

Sometimes we keep friendships because of the length of time we've been friends with this person and because of the memories. But when you're just holding onto just memories and no longer enjoy that person's company, it's time to let it go. Sometimes, there is more bad than good when you hold onto a friendship. Especially, if you put more into the friendship than the other person.

I closed a chapter of my life, and I already can see a difference, a good one. I have decided to use this as a lesson: Only keep people around you who make you feel good about yourself, encourage/support you, and are there for you. Sounds pretty obvious, but you would be surprised what we put up with without really noticing until we take a step back from it all.

I only have a handful of people in my life, but they are people I can count on and help me live my live positively, and that's all that matters. They're the people who really matter.

winter vibes.

This past weekend Lisa came out to visit me in Chichibu. It was so nice to see her, it had been a while. Or, at least it felt like it. I showed her Mitsumine Shrine and we explored it a bit more. We came across an actual shrine for wolves. I'll post it eventually. We ate waraji katsu and afterwards I took her to one of my favorite cafes that K took me to. We had gelato for dessert.

We were planning to see icicles but decided to go to an onsen instead where we booked a room but that ended up not going as planned. To make us feel better we slept in the next day and got soft serve at my favorite place. This time I got the white coffee flavor.

Our weekend didn't go as planned, but it was still fun to meet up and catch up. I'll be seeing her in another week or so for Laura's live.

x  x

It's already going to be February, it trips me out how fast January went. I know February is going to zoom by, I'm going to work more than usual and I have things planned on the weekends. I'm literally going to be booked.

March is also going to be busy. My little sis and her boyfriend are coming to visit me for a week! I'm so excited to show them around. I'm also so happy my little sis gets to travel, she has never really traveled before.

Also, for the rest of my spring break me and Lisa are planning on going to Okinawa. I literally cannot wait, I've been wanting to go there forever. My friends who used to live there have been recommending me places and it makes me want to go there even more!

March is also going to be the end of my contract and I will be starting my second year with my school. A year seriously flew by. I definitely feel like I need to make the most of my time here.

I'm still all over the place with what I'm going to do after me second year, but one step at a time I suppose.

fushimi inari, bengals & owls.

Friday, December 30th 2016

We went to Fushimi inari, which was probably my favorite place in Kyoto, minus the cat and owl cafe. Fushimi inari was so beautiful and weather was great that day so I was able to capture some good photos. Even if it was crowded, it was still good.

After Fushimi inari we headed to the bengal cat cafe. Bengals are my favorite cats so I was so happy when Lyy took me here. We also went to see the owls which was a good choice. I've never seen an owl so close and you could pet them! They felt like clouds, I loved their touch.

This was probably my favorite day in Kyoto. Me and Lyy chilled at a restaurant as we waited to head to Kyoto to take the shinkansen back to Tokyo.

Overall, the trip was nice. But tbh, I think Kyoto is a bit overhyped. Maybe because I live in the inaka I don't for care it? I actually preferred Miyazaki to Kyoto. It was still a good trip, andI'm happy to get it off my travel list but I probably won't head back to Kyoto or Nara again unless it's for cafes or something.

gold things and arashiyama.

Thursday, December 28th 2016

We arrived in Kyoto the night before and went around the next morning. I really wanted to see Kinkakuji and the bamboo forest at Arashiyama. They were selling soft serve at both places, I had to get the one with gold and the 4 flavored one at Arashiyama. They were both worth it, even though it was freezing.

The bamboo forest was unfortunately super crowded so good pictures were extremely hard to take, and most of the bamboo had fallen down. We weren't sure if it was due to weather conditions or what, but it was a bit disappointing. At least the soft serve was good! And we had duck udon which was also nice.

We went to Arashiyama station where they had an illumination called the "Kimono Forest", it was nice but much more magnificent in photos lol. Afterwards, Lyy and I headed the Shibuya of Kyoto and ate at chilled at an izakaya. The food there was good, especially their duck!

This trip was the first time I've ever had duck and I liked it a lot. Especially the izakaya one.

mysteries of nara.

Wednesday, December 28th 2016

Me and Lyy went on an early bus to Nara. On the way, it began to snow. It was a pretty sight, but it made us arrive a bit later than planned. We met up with one of Lyy's friends, Yoshi. He was nice enough to show us around Nara. We really just wanted to go to the deer park, but he was nice enough to take us to other places.

We saw a giant buddha which put the Kamakura one to shame. We also got to see a few really nice temples. They were definitely nice. The deer park was of course the highlight of Nara for me. I loved the deer. I didn't feed them because they got close to you even if you didn't have food.

Afterwards Yoshi took us to a nice temple in the mountains that had really nice art. But it was so cold, and we had to take off our shoes I wish I could have appreciated it more lol. After that, we hung out with Yoshi and his friends who lived close by. After staying with them for a bit we headed back to central Nara where me and Lyy headed to Kyoto.

a sky full of stars.

Tuesday, December 27th 2016

Me and Lyy wanted to see illumination so we decided to go back Nabana no Sato. It was our favorite illumination, and it has been 3 years since we had been back there. Honestly, being there brought so many memories of who we were at that time.

Me and Lyy talk about this all the time, we were so different then. It's weird to think about how much things have changed since then. It definitely gave me a nostalgic feeling.

This time, Nabana no Sato wasn't so crowded, it was probably because it was after Christmas already. So me and Lyy were able to take many photos. We also ate a lot of food they were selling. We were being fat asses, but that was most of the trip tbh.

It was nice to go back to Nabana no Sato because to be honest, I don't think I'll be going back. We went back to our airbnb to relax because we were getting up early for Nara the next day.
